ABOUT
From Lima, Peru. Based in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Sofía Magdits Espinoza (*1995) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Düsseldorf. Her practice spans textile art, performance, installation, music, and video – with a particular focus on weaving.
Magdits Espinoza interweaves materials, techniques, and symbolic elements to craft transcultural narratives that make visible human connections, social fabrics, and ecological relationships – as well as their fragility. Her artistic approach is shaped by feminist and decolonial perspectives: she questions dominant narratives and seeks spaces where alternative stories and collective memories can unfold.
Participation, care, and collective learning are at the heart of her work. She understands weaving not only as a craft, but as a political-poetic act – a practice of listening, healing, and resistance. Through her engagement with nature, cultural heritage, and artisanal knowledge, she creates spaces of encounter – between people, across times, and between worlds.
Magdits Espinoza’s works invite unlearning – a tender reflection on what connects us and how we might imagine new futures together.
